Recording of vocals for Gatchami
This is cave 10 of the World Heritage listed Elora Caves, not far from Aurangabad in India. This is the cave where the vocals for Gatchami were recorded. A young guide by the name of Imran spotted me getting my recording gear ready, I was about to record some atmospheres of the birds singing while flying in and out of the caves. He approached me and was eager to sing me a short passage of a Buddist chant. We waited for a few minutes for the remaining visitors to leave and managed to get a good recording. The natural acoustics were really something special. We were both pretty happy with the experience as I played the recording back to Imran over the headphones. It wasn't long before I realised I should have negotiated his fee before we got started.........not to worry, we both parted ways enriched by the experience.
The cave temples, chapels and monasteries of Ellora were carved over a period of five centuries by (Buddist, Hindu and Jain) monks and date back as far as 600AD. They stretch for over 2 km. | | Monday, April 30, 2007 |
